We were approached by the Go Ahead Group asking us to assist with some fundamental changes at their main bus hub and headquarters, Oxford Bus Garage.

Their current system, supplying air conditioning to over 40 offices within the building, was nearing 25 years old. Refrigerant leaks were commonplace, and the system had not been running properly for at least 5 years when we were asked to step in.

At the facility managers request we carried out a survey and initial design to replace their existing 4 unit Mitsubishi VRF system and over 40 ducted indoor units. While conducting the survey to the existing plat, we determined that due to the age and condition, a lot of the setup, a lot of the units were not working and after further investigation it was identified that parts were obsolete.

We worked in a partnership with the client to redesign the existing system and supply and fit new indoor units for all their offices.

With the bus garage being the main hub for all services, it was imperative that we conducted work with minimal disruption to the working day. This involved liaising constantly with the client and individual workers.

With health and safety being paramount in this project, our own health and safety team were on site throughout to ensure that the workers and general public were protected at all times while still allowing the works to be conducted in a timely manner and within safe working practices.

Removal of the existing plant and fitting new equipment meant utilising a crane to access the roof of the building. This was accomplished by liaising at length with the route master to create a safe demarcation area space for the crane to operate within and traffic management system allowing the busses to operate as normal.

With 4 new VRV’s in place and over 40 new indoor units, connected to a new BMS system to allow for central monitoring and control of the entire system , workers in the office space can now individually control the air quality within their workspaces, giving them a better environment to work in.
